Jump Rope For Heart!

Yes, it is that time of the year!!! Jump Rope for Heart is kicking off this week. Your child should have received a donation packet as well as a parent letter in their Tuesday folder's this week (2/2/10). If they did not receive it this week, they will receive it next Tuesday. Jump Rope for Heart is a great way to get everyone involved in raising money for a great cause. The American Heart Association puts these programs on each year at schools across the country to help raise money and awareness for heart disease. Everything you need to know is provided in the packet that you received. This year, they are really trying to put a big emphasis on on-line donations. All you do is follow the instructions on the packet and then follow the steps on the webpage that you go to. It is a very cool page that the students can make their own. They can post pictures and write about what they are wanting to do. They then e-mail their family and friends and ask them for donations for a great cause. There will be some type of link in the e-mail that the donators will click on to put in a credit card number to donate. The AHA statistics show that people will donate up to 3 times the amount online, than they would in person!! So really try to push the on-line donations. Once you are finished with online donations, you need to print out the gift summary form and put it in the envelope that is provided. Now, just because they are pushing online donations, does not mean we are not taking face-to-face donations! As long as the money is in the form of a check, there is no problem. Please DO NOT send cash or change in the envelopes. If you do this, I will have to send it back home with your child. Everything for this will be due on Friday, February 26th, 2010. This is also the day when we will be holding our JRFH event. The event is a little different than in years past. It will not be after school and there will not be a pizza party. Each child in the school will participate in the event during their ancillary time on that Friday. Whatever ancillary class they have for that one day, they will come outside for the JRFH event. Now just because it is during the day does not mean we won't need parent volunteers. If you would like to help out, then please feel free to e-mail me. If you want to help out all day, part of the day, or just during your child's ancillary time that would be great. If you have any other questions or concerns, please e-mail me and I will respond to you promptly. Thank you and I can't wait to see how much money our amazing students can raise!

Welcome Back!!

Happy New Year to you all! It is great to be back at school following the winter break! I can't believe the school year is half over, but that still means we have a great half left. Within the first few weeks of the new semester, I will be passing out information regarding Jump Rope for Life. This year, JR4L will be done a little differently than it has been done in the past. Instead of it being after school for 3 straight days, we will be completing the JR4L event during our school day. On Friday, Feb. 26th, when your student comes to ancillary class that day, they will be outside participating in the JR4L event. With all of the help from the other ancillary teachers, we think this will be an easier way for students to be involved, and also not have to miss any of their extended day activities/classes. Parents are still more than welcome to come join in the fun and festivities on that day. If you have any questions regarding JR4L, please do not hesitate to ask me.

Also, to everyone participating in Marathon Kids; please get your Mileage Logs in to me AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! Friday, January 22nd will be the deadline to turn in your logs. I will accept them NO LATER than Thursday, January 28th. The reason for this is so that I can get a correct count on how many shirts need to be ordered. Remember, just because you signed up for Marathon Kids does not mean you will get a shirt. You must have completed your mileage log and have it signed by a parent and turned in by the date noted above, in order to receive your shirt. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thank you and I look forward to seeing all of you this week!

WHAT A SUCCESS!!

Though it was slightly wet and mushy outside, Roberts hosted our annual Field Day on Tuesday, Nov. 24. The kids had a wonderful time! I want to thank all the teachers and parents who were out there to help and support our students! You all did an amazing job at making sure everyone got to where they needed to be. Though it wasn't ideal weather conditions, we still had a very fun time out there and, to me, that is all that matters.
Next, I just want to take this opportunity to inform you on what is being learned in the P.E. classroom these days. We are all working on our throwing and catching units. This week, we also had a short health lesson on the heart and how and where to find our pulse. We discussed where the carotid and radial arteries are located, as well.

Last but not least, I want to remind you that students are still able to turn in their mileage logs for Marathon Kids. I have been getting approx. 2-3 per week. Please encourage your students to finish this program if they signed up to participate in it. Please contact me if you have any questions. Thanks!

Field Day is upon us!

Attention all Parents and Students...

In just one short week we will be hosting Roberts' Elementary Field Day! Your child will be participating in a wide variety of games and activities. These games will be cooperative games with their classmates. K-2 will participate in the morning (8:45-10:45), while 3rd-5th grades will go in the afternoon (12:45-2:30). Please be sure that your child wears clothing that will enable them to participate in these games at their highest level possible. Some form of athletic attire would be preferable. Please wear some form of tennis shoe. No sandals AT ALL, no crocs, or any other type of shoe that does not cover your students' entire foot (ankle to toe). Parents are welcome to attend this event. Please join us for a great day of fun and activity!

Great things going on!

Good morning parents and students! I just wanted to share with you some things that have been going on in P.E. The Pre-K and K students have been and will continue to work on their fine locomotor skills. We are having a great time learning the proper way to skip, gallop, hop, jump, and slide! 1st-5th graders have been doing a lot of games that involve moving in open spaces to help them improve their spacial awareness. Currently, since it has been a bit wet outside for the past week or so, we are playing a new game called Minefield. This is a game that helps them improve their memory and uses brain power! We are not just exercising your child's body in P.E., we are also exercising their minds! If you would like more information on what is going on in P.E., ask your child! I hope everyone is having a great October!
